It's summer, it's Tuesday, and I'm bored. So I'm going to right a quick guide on how to make money.
Before I start, I'm just letting everyone know that this is how I make money, so of course there are other ways to make money. I'm just giving out my not-so-secret money making secrets.
This is more for reference than it is a guide. Now onto the show xD

Ok let's be honest. It takes almost zero skill to master gameplay in maplestory. And for the people who argue against it...play something with twitch-controlled gameplay like ninja gaiden, Muramasa, even that one game Vidictus (even though it's not that hard). Play those first, then come talk to me...I'm done ranting >.>
Anyway...How do you get "good" at maplestory? The answer is (drum roll).....FUNDING
Anyone who plays this game know this universal equation:
More meso = better funding = better damage = kills faster = levels faster = can boss = good drops = more meso.
It's a cycle you see, but it's not as simple as it looks.
Now if you look at this equation, you'll see that you'll need "more money" first. There's a saying that says "It takes money to make money". The more money you have, the more potential profit you can make. I used "potential profit" because not everyone can take 1bil and turn it into 3 or 4bil. People blow it off very quickly, including myself, and it's really common to see it in-game and in real life.
I also notice that it's getting harder for players to start merching. You'd rather level than make money -__-. With things like Jesters, mp3, and LHC, you don't necessarily need to be godly in order to get to a higher level. For older maplers, lvl 70 is the new lvl 30, lvl 120 is the new lvl 70, and lvl 160 is the new lvl 120. Many people go close to 160 levels with out merching. It's very easy to lose yourself in the grinding. But I'm pretty sure all you veterans out there know how rough getting those first skill and mastery books are if you're unfunded.
This is a guide written by me for you guys. I've been there; started out with nothing, but found a great guild (unity4good), met some great people, got some awesome equips, started my own great guild (Refoveo ftw <33), and steadily moved up in the maple world. But it all starts wif da m0nehz LOL
I see this more as a refrence than a guide. You don't have to follow this step-by-step, but I'm positive there are bits and pieces of info in here that I'm pretty sure are useful
OK enough talking, it's guide time
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
This is to get you started. It's more for the people who have very little meso (less than 20mil), and need to get on their feet.
Before you start, you must have a store permit. I don't care how you get it, just get one. Otherwise you'll make it harder on yourself to make a profit, and trust me when I say it's a long and boring process in itself. You don't want to make it harder >.>
1. So you're broke. HELLA broke. Where do you start?...well the answer is quests >.>
Do quests that give you rewards, specifically scrolls. There's a few quests that give you a GFA 60%. I forgot which ones, but you can ask maplers or your guild and they'll know. Do those and sell them in your store. Ask the guild for prices. I'm a little rusty on mine atm but I'm pretty sure someone can give you a legit p/c.
2. Once you make you're first 25mil, it's time for you to hit the FM entrance and start merching.
Do you know why you see a lot of people spamming "B>GFA 60%, 10att wgs" in the FM entrance? It's not because they don't have shops to sell their stuff in, it's because you can buy for cheaper in the FM entrance. Actually trading with people gives you the option of haggling prices down. This is good because you can tell the who the real pros are when you trade them. A pro will know their prices and it's very hard to make a profit off of them. On the flip side, it's very easy to make a profit off of people who aren't pros who have money, aka rich nibs.
3. Once you buy your items from the FM entrance, sell them at a higher price in your store.
Buy low, sell high. It's money making 101. There's nothing much to say about this cuz it's pretty self explanatory. If you're having trouble finding an average price for the item, go to basilmarket.com. It's a great place to find out the prices of stuff.
4. So you're raking in the dough...what now? Invest into more profitable things
Move onto bigger things. Start merching 10att wgs, % equips, mastery books, White scrolls, Chairs. The more you invest, the more potential profit you'll have. It's very hard to turn 100k of investment into 10mil profit. It's easy to turn 7mil investment into 10mil+ profit. With some luck, this is also one of the best ways to keep increasing your funds.
5. Ok so you're extremely rich. An enemy to the economy. What now?
I'm trying to get to this point. I'm not there yet but I'm working at it. Anyways, when you have this much money, you can start scrolling your own stuff with out losing too much profit. Use scrolls you already have to scroll stuff, like that knuckler for att you've had in your inventory the longest. If you play you're cards right you'll actually make ALOT of money. I'll give you an example.
I've been working on a pair of ski skies for a while now (a few months). I got them with 1 gach ticket. At the time the nx ratio was 1:12, so you can say I spent 12mil on a clean 97att pair of skies. I used 2 50% 2hand scroll I'd saved in my inventory and only 1 worked. Then I got lazy and scrolled it with spear att 60% scrolls, each one costing around 4mil each. Out of the 4 60% scrolls I used, only 2 worked. So i was stuck with a pair of 106att skis. This is where the investing part comes in. I had 3 enhancement scrolls, 2 of which I bought in the FM for 8mil and 1 I found while grinding on another character. I got lucky and all three worked. This is where investing more = more potential profit comes in again. I figured "why not?" and bought a potential scroll for 7mil and used it on my skies. Again I got lucky and it worked, with good stats btw.
I ended up with 120att skies unhammered with potential. Great weapon especially for Dk and Drk. But what was more impressive was the profit:
12mil (skies) + 20mil (4 spear att 60%) + 16mil (enhancement scrolls) + 7mil (regular potential scroll) = around 55mil
....I sold them for 150mil in less than 3 hours. I could have sold them for more but I was inpatient. I gained 3x the profit and a buddy while in the process
My point is that at this point you should be looking for ways to make profit by investing more. I could have easily sold the skis after I got them clean. But with a little investment and luck I hit the jackpot.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
TIPS AND THINGS YOU SHOULD LOOK OUT FOR!
-KNOW YOUR PRICES!!! You need to know this otherwise you'll have no clue if you're getting a deal or getting ripped off. I can't stress that enough. Go through the FM a few times a day to check the prices. Don't be ashamed to ask for a price check on a common item like GFA or 10att wgs. Prices change all the time and it's to your benefit to know the prices.
-Buy low, Sell high. I follow the 10-50% rule. When buying something try to haggle the prices down 5-50%. When selling something try sell it 5-50% higher. The lower the item's value, the more flexibility the price has. If you have an item that costs 50k, price it at 75k. But on an item like 10att wgs, which are about 205mil, you don't have as much flexibility. You can't price 10att wgs at 307mil and expect someone to buy it.
-Take advantage of events. Good example is the whole 50% scroll exploit a while ago. For those who are wondering, those are legit scrolls. They are not like the recent items that were posted on MTS. Anyways, this is a great way to get rich. The key is to be patient. A friend of mine gathered 20 of those pick scrolls. They sell for around 200mil each. Now do 200x20, and that's how much money he has in items.
-Banking off what I said above, you may have the items but you need the patience to sell items at the price you want to sell them. Patience is key. You need it when you level, you need it when you're buying stuff in the FM entrance, and you need it when you're selling stuff at your store. In the example above he could have easily sold those scrolls for cheap when they were about 20mil. He'd actually be making a lot of profit if he did. But he held on, waited, and now he's sitting on a potential goldmine.
-When setting up your shop, try to set up in rooms 5-9. While room 1-4 is may seem like a good spot, it's actually run by elite merchants and merchant guilds who overprice they're stuff, and you'll be sucked into that group if your store is up in those rooms. They D/C hack for those spots and you'll be harassed if you take "their spot". It's not worth the trouble, and it's also easier to find a spot.
-When haggling, ask them nicely to offer first for 2 reasons. I stress nicely because not only do they have the item you want, they're willing to negotiate with you. If they didn't want to, they could have just put the item up in a store and overprice it. The other reason is to check and see if they know their prices. If a guy trades you and offers a GFA for 2mil, he obviously doesn't know his prices and you can buy it right away. Easy monehz.
-If the guy insists you offer first, offer at a price lower than what you expected to pay. If you expect to buy a 10att wg for 215mil and a guy trades you and asks you to offer, offer 200mil for the wg. Hell, offer 195mil for the wg. Just make sure you get it for less than you expected to buy.
-Stay well informed about the updates coming to maplestory. If you know a new class is coming out and they use daggers and thief gear, start farming for daggers, dagger att scrolls, and thief gear. The more people playing the class, the higher the demand for their items. It's a simple concept people use in and out off maplestory, and it's a great way to make a lot of money fast.
-If you have a lot of the same item, do not put them all up at the same time. Why you ask? Because you'll be seen as a hoarder. What hoarders do is buy a bunch of one item and sell it overpriced. They also come off as greedy. You want to be sneaky. You want to be a secret hoarder. If you put up a few at a time, people may think you're trying to make a quick buck, or maybe you've farmed them all day and you're selling what you found. It shows that you're committed to getting that item, it shows that you're reliable cause you have a few everyday, and it shows you're legit.
-If you have a godly item and you don't know what you should price it at, ask your friends or guild or price it at max meso in your store and ask for offers. With the ladder, the person who offered might be secretly scamming you, but at least now you have a price to work with and you can work from there.
There are many ways to make meso in this game. This is just the way I make meso in the game and I've been successful over the years. I'm just sharing my knowledge with you guys. But by all means, step out the box and experiment a little. I mean it is your story >.>
